More advice on how to book driving lessons.
Advice from Saddlers Driver Training (Inverness), here we look at how much it will cost you for lessons and how to book them.

Price Guarantees -

When booking driving lessons ask the instructor to agree to certain guarantees:

1: Training prices should not rise throughout your training.
Some driving schools may increase prices after a few lessons, get your instructor to indicate whether
lesson prices will rise

during your training.

2: No hidden charges on normal Prices
Another very common practice among driving schools is to drop in hidden charges;  You have to pay double on
your first lesson,  Your test counts as 2 lessons, and of course the old classic - You need to pay the  'Examiner's Insurance'  fee for the

test.

Make your instructor Guarantee NO HIDDEN CHARGES

3: Other important stuff to ask the instructor

If you turn up late will I get extra time at the end?
If the instructor turns up 5 minutes late, you don't want him dropping you off 5 minutes early at the end of the lesson.
Do you have a waiting list?
If he has a waiting list for lessons, he may not be able to fit you in again for three weeks.
What will I do on my first lesson?
Do you get to actually drive on your first lesson? Not all driving schools allow you to.
Will I have another pupil sitting in the back?
A few instructors still use the old system where you pick up the next pupil on your way around, would you be happy with that?
What is your cancellation policy?
If you have to cancel most instructors will require 24 hours notice, which is fair enough. But what about a genuine emergency,
if you break your leg will you still be charged for the lesson?

Car Driving Lessons Prices

One hour lessons

Car Driving Lessons -

Most driving schools charge between £20 and £28 for one hour lessons.

We charge £25 for one hour lessons, this is around the standard rate for our area, however in some areas the average price of lessons may be higher or lower.

Block Booking deals

Some driving schools will offer discount rates for block bookings, you will probably have to pay up-front.

Be careful if the driving school offers mega-cheap rates; A practice amongst some very cheap driving schools is to spend the first lesson sitting at the side of the road doing 'the controls.' You then spend the next 4 lessons driving in circles around the local industrial estate. This is how some driving schools can afford offers like  "First five lessons for £50.  You see you may be getting five lessons for fifty quid but you will be learning virtually nothing.

                                                           ...................................................................

Car Driving Lessons - one + a half hour lessons

One + a half hour lessons can be much better value, and many driving schools offer discount rates on these lessons.

Like many driving schools, we charge a discounted  £33 for one + a half hour lessons, which works out only £22 per hour, again the price of lessons could vary dependant on your area.

The advantage of one + a half hour lessons is optimum learning time. Basically one hour can be too short to fully 'get-to-grip' with a subject which means it will take you some time on your next lesson to remember what to do again.  Whereas two hours can be too long to concentrate for many people.
